What comes to mind when you hear the word social media? Apps like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, FaceTime and dozens more come up in a blink if you happen to browse through the so-called 'Social' category of the Play store.
Have you ever wondered what does it mean being social? What makes us social? What is so special in us that we call ourselves the "Social Animal". Well, from where I see it we are no different from the usual animals. We are born, we all die, we reproduce just like the animals then where does the difference kick in?
The difference, my friend, is the sheer presence of the bond between people. It isn't just for reproductive purposes. The bond between a family is much stronger than in a family of lions. A human family stick together. They share theirs joys and try to compensate for each other's sorrows but what if we don't do all the things? What if we suddenly become unsocial? Would we still be called as the 'Social Animals'?
The change is not sudden. That's for sure. Coz that would have been catastrophic. But the gradual change in our generations is going to change the shape of the world. Its going to change the sheer perception of being a human.
You must be wondering from where did all this talk came from? We were talking about some apps and the author was going full time philosophical there. Well, its nothing but truth. Have you ever seen a seventy years old man spending all his time on an iPad watching hilarious feeds from funny pages on Facebook? The answer is a plain and simple 'No'. This is because he has lives the life in the real way. He has lived life to its full extent. He has lived life in its true meaning. He will never accept being limited to a device which is nothing more than an illusion.
The media we call social is nothing but unsocial. When we unlock our lock screen and login to our phones, we shut down the world. We shut down the real world for an imaginary world where you are going to get nothing but despair. Life is out there in the sun. Go and get it coz you live only once.
