La Liga: Barca set the bar high with a comprehensive win over Betis

Bara start this season just as they had left the last one. The team did a great job demolishing Real Betis 6-2. And that too without Neymar, Iniesta and Macherno, all of them being inetgral figures in the last season's favoured eleven.
The first goal was created by Messi in the 6th minute as he provided Jordi Alba with a beaitiful cross who passed it to Arda in the box and all it took was an easy first touch from the Turk to send the ball in. He almost made it look too easy.
In the 21st minute, Ruben Castro, easily the best Betis player on the pitch, levelled the score with a stunning free kick from the edge of the area.
Messi finally found the net after having a few shots blocked, in magnificient fashion. Roberto provided Messi with the ball and he ran diagonally accross the field before unleashing a typical Messi left footed curling shot from the edge of the area.
Sergi Roberto got his second assist in the 42th minute as he provided Suarez with the ball nd Suarez, with the instinct of a pure striker awesomely tucked it into the lower left corner.
Betis got hit on the counter in the 56th minute. Messi ran accross the field, gave Arda the ball, got it back and provided Suarez with a wonderful diagonal pass who put it over the line.
It was another Magical Messi moment in 57th minute as he collected the ball from the Turk captain, danced past the Betis defense before shooting it into the lower right corner. Magnificient!
After shooting a freekick into the wall and another one over the wall, Messi let Surez take one in the 82nd and the man produced a beautiful shot right into the top corner. A hat trick on the first day! Can it get any better?
Betis got a consolation in 84th minute but it did not matter much as the Blaugrana snatched three points.

Supercopa leg 2: Barca win the first silverware of the season!

It was another beautiful evening in the Camp Nou as Barcelona were able to build on their advantage from the first leg three days ago to beat Sevilla.

The Preview:

Going into the match, Barca had an advantage of two away goals. The starting eleven was completely changed. Iniesta was out due an injury in the first leg, Pique,Rakitic and Suarez were on the bench, probably to get rest for the Liga opener on Saturday. Similar was the case with Sevilla who had their captain Adil Rami out.

The Match:

The first goal game early in the 10th. A typical Barcelona goal; Messi to Gomes and back to Messi who gave a beautiful through ball to Arda Turan who didn't disappoint. Sevilla gained a chance a to equalize through a penalty courtesy of a handball by Umtiti. However, the shot was saved by Bravo. Barca's second goal was also scored by Turan who found a loose ball on the edge of area and slotted home from a distance. The third goal was real shock. An inch perfect cross from Lucas Digne found Lionel Messi, and the little man did beautifully to head into the bottom left corner. Stunning! Both teams had chances after that but the tie had been pretty much decided. And, in the end, Messi lifted his first trophy as the man with the armband.

Supercopa: Barca secure win in the first leg!

An exciting match ended with Barca beating the Europa experts Sevilla 2-0.

Preview:

Luis Enrique employed a 4-4-2 rather than the usual 4-4-3 with Arda dropping deep into midfield instead of occupying the left flank in place of Neymar. The choice of Matheu as a left back raised many questions. The defender has not performing well recently and there was a better option available in the form of the newly signed Lucas Digne.
Sevilla has undegone drastic changes since their 3-1 win over Liverpool back in May to lift their third consecutive Europa League title; their much successful coach Uney Emery decided to switch to PSG and their striker Kevin Gameiro left for Atletico madrid. Luciana Vietto, a part of the aforementioned deal, is now their striker.

The Match:

The first half ended on a level note. Barca were disappointing as Sevilla pressed very hard. Busquets, the pivot, was not performing well which was one of basic reason as to why Barca could not retain much possession which is their style of play. Matheu and Iniesta had to be taken off, both within 30 minutes, due to injuries. They didn't look serious but an official statement is yet to come. They were replaced by Lucas Digne and Denis Suarez.
The second half proved much better for the men in stripes. The overall team play was much better. The first goal came in 55th minute. A beautiful cross over the Sevilla defense by Denis Suarez found Arda Turan who chested it into the path of Luis Suarez who bulleted it into the net. The second one came late in 8tst minute as purely awesome Messi through ball found Munir, who had just been subbed in for Arda, and his first touch found the back of the net. Both sides found some beautiful chances near the ending minutes of the game but failed to convert.
Barca go into the second leg, being played on Wednesday, as favorites with two away goals. They are in a prime position to get the first silverware of the season.
